Indian hockey's great goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been selected for the Padma Bhushan award, while four players and a para coach, including spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently retired from cricket, will be awarded the Padma Shri.
The players selected for the country's fourth highest civilian award Padmashree include India's great footballer IM Vijayan and India's first para athlete Harvinder Singh to win a gold medal in the Paralympics.
Para athletics coach Satyapal Singh, who is the coach of Khel Ratna awardee Paralympic gold medalist high jump para athlete Praveen Kumar, will also be awarded the Padma Shri.
Sreejesh, who retired from hockey after winning his second consecutive Olympic bronze medal in Paris, is currently the head coach of the Indian junior men's team.
