Washington: American space agency NASA has entrusted Indian-origin scientist Aaroh Barjatya with the responsibility of a big mission to reveal the unseen secrets of the Sun. People in many parts of the US will see the sun's brightness fade by 10 percent from normal on October 14. Aarohi's team is going to launch three rockets on the same day during the annular solar eclipse. Barjatya is a professor of physics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.
He told that the objective of this mission named Atmospheric Perturbations around the Eclipse Path (APEP) is to see how the sudden decrease in sunlight affects our upper atmosphere.
During the mission, the first rocket will be launched 35 minutes before the solar eclipse, the second during the solar eclipse and the third 35 minutes after. These will be sent just outside the annular path where the Moon passes in front of the Sun. Aroh Barjatya said that the instruments installed in them will study the changes in electric and magnetic fields, density and temperature etc.
These rockets will measure changes in various things from 70 to 325 kilometers above the surface. Aaroh said that if this mission is successful, it will be the first experiment to take measurements from different places in the ionosphere during a solar eclipse. This would be a big thing in itself. According to NASA, the mission will try to understand how the sudden drop in sunlight affects our planet's upper atmosphere.
