Jabalpur: President Smt. Draupadi Murmu has said that justice should not be so expensive that it becomes out of reach of the common man. Therefore, organizations and groups of lawyers should come forward to provide cheap and accessible justice.
The President was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the High Court building to be built at a cost of Rs 460 crore in Jabalpur. Addressing the program organized at Triple ITDM, Mrs. Murmu said that the High Court building is 134 years old. It is the need of the hour to make the High Court building technically equipped and efficient.
Mrs. Murmu said that consider how alternative solutions to disputes can be made cheap and accessible. Consider those who are in jail due to cases pending in the courts and for minor crimes and settle the disputes as per the concept of Panch Parmeshwar. Settlement of disputes through mediation enjoys wide support in the society. This also reduces litigation. Efforts should be made to provide simple, easy and quick justice in the judiciary.
Mrs. Murmu said that today every sector of the country is progressing due to technology. Progress has also been made in the justice sector. The e-court system has proved reliable in this. The use of technology has an important role in making the justice process easy and simple. Last week, an Act to reserve 33 percent seats in Parliament was passed for the empowerment of women.
He said that there should be collective participation of women in the justice sector also because women have a natural sense of justice. In justice, it is very important to have practical knowledge along with bookish knowledge. Referring to a case of ADM vs Shivkant Shukla of the year 1976, he said that the name of Jabalpur is indelible in history due to the decision given in favor of fundamental rights.
