Kiev: Ukraine celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Independence Day amid tight security. Addressing Independence Day celebrations in Kiev's Saint Sophia Square on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is capable of maintaining its independence. We will not lose hold of Ukraine's independence, Zelensky said. We are all united in this sentiment. During the official ceremony, Zelensky presented awards to Ukrainian soldiers who participated in the Russo-Ukraine War. According to the report, an exhibition of destroyed Russian weapons and military equipment was held on the central Khreshchatyk Street, displaying the remains of tanks, howitzers, combat vehicles and missiles. However, in many areas across the country, public events were banned due to concerns of fresh attacks. Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union on 24 August 1991, which is celebrated as the country's Independence Day.
