New Delhi: India's right-handed batsman Jemimah Rodrigues recalled her match-winning innings against Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa this year, saying it was one of the most special innings for her. In this match, Jemima played an unbeaten 53 in 38 balls with the help of eight fours at a strike rate of 139.47 and helped India win by chasing a target of 150 runs against Pakistan. She shared a 58-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Richa Ghosh (31 not out off 20 balls) to give India a seven-wicket win with an over to spare in the tournament's first match. Jemima said, it was one of the most special innings for me. My focus was on what I could do to help the team win. Richa and I have had a great partnership. When Jemima hit the winning boundary off Fatima Sana, her parents were also present in the stands.
The batsman dedicated his Player of the Match award to his parents, who had flown down from Mumbai to watch Jemima play for India in the T20 World Cup. My mother and father were there to watch me play, Jemima said. It was the first time that he had come to watch a live match in a stadium so it was even more special for me. Jemima, who played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), will now be seen in international action during the Women's T20 event at the 19th Asian Games.
