The Government scheme led Urmila to establish a successful dairy business

This is the story of Mrs. Urmila Yadav, a 45-year-old resident of Jhalkhamharia village, located 6 kilometres from Mahasamund district headquarters. Despite coming from a small farmer family, Urmila achieved financial success by establishing a dairy farm business with the help of a government scheme. Mrs. Urmila had completed her education up to the 10th standard. To ensure their survival she set up a small cycle shop in her village and kept some cows for domestic purposes.

Urmila's dream was to improve her family's economic condition by establishing a profitable dairy business. However, financial constraints made it difficult for her. She learned about the Departmental Schemes for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Entrepreneurship Development. She contacted the department and was eligible for the loan scheme. With the assistance of the Chhattisgarh Rajya Gramin Bank and the department, Urmila was granted a loan of Rs. 12.00 lakh, of which Rs. 6.00 lakh was received as a grant. With this financial help, she purchased 15 milch cows of advanced breed and used the milk income to repay the loan installment regularly.

Today, Urmila owns 26 advanced-breed cows, and her dairy milk unit produces around one and a half quintals of milk. She earns a daily income of Rs. 6000–7000 rupees, of which 5000 rupees per day are spent on animal management and maintenance. She saves Rs. 1500-2000 as net profit. Urmila runs a milk parlor named Om Dairy for marketing, and she also uses cow dung to produce vermicompost to further increase her economic benefits.

Mrs. Urmila's success has proven the effectiveness of the State Dairy Entrepreneurship Scheme in serving women's empowerment. She expressed gratitude to the state government for launching such empowering schemes.
