Delhi: After the coup in Niger, the situation has become worrisome for French and other foreign nationals. In view of this, France is constantly evacuating its citizens from there. The French government has evacuated around 1000 foreigners, including Indian nationals, in the last two days. French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain tweeted that the French government has evacuated around 992 people through several flights, out of which 560 are its citizens while the rest include citizens of several other countries, including Indian citizens.

There is a lot of anger against France in Niger and the situation has become more serious after the military coup. The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on its website that the day before yesterday there was violence at our embassy in the capital Niamey and the airspace was closed. In such a situation, there is no possibility for the citizens of France to leave the country by their own means. France is trying its best to evacuate its citizens as well as European citizens who want to leave the country. Let us tell you that on Sunday, the French Embassy in Niamey, the capital of Niger, was attacked and French flags were burnt.

According to CNN reports, pro-coup protesters were seen chanting the names of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The crowd of people were shouting slogans of France Murdabad (Down with France), Rus Zindabad (long live Russia) and Putin Zindabad (long live Putin). Russia has also urged the rebels to release the country's democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, but this appears unlikely.
