IND vs WI first Test: Ashwin leads India to innings with 141 over West Indies

Dominica: Ravichandran Ashwin returned match figures of 12 for 131 as India defeated West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in Dominica. Earlier, the guests declared their innings at the score of 421 for 5, taking a first-innings lead of 271 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal top scored with 171-run knock while Virat Kohli hit 76. It was Ashwin’s five-for in the first inning that had helped India bundle out the hosts for 150 after getting an invitation to bowl.

The visiting team scored a crucial 12 points in the world test standings, opening a new round of a new cycle. Ashwin was the best ball-handler in the Indian team and he went 7/71 in the second innings. He scored his eighth 10-wicket wicket, the most common strike by an Indian bowler, as it equaled Anil Kumble's tally. Ashwin was 12 for 131 from the field, his best mark in an away Test.

At lunchtime, India struck 400 for four and claimed a massive 271-run lead in the first innings with five for 421 before West Indies batted in the second innings.West Indies were knocked out by 130 runs in the second innings of the final game of extra time, with the game ending three days later.

West Indies debutant Alick Athanaze proved once again that he has the potential to be a player of the future as he scored 28 in the second innings after striking 47 in the first innings. Jason Holder (20) and Jomel Warrican (18) also tried to fight back but it was too late for West Indies.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal set the stage for a huge win with a historic 171 in his Test debut. He was also named Man of the Match for his disciplined batting in his debut and produced an impressive first innings effort to help India dominate the West Indies. Captain Rohit Sharma also scored a superb goal of the century, while Virat Kohli missed a goal and was sent off for 76 points. It's not one of his smooth shots, as he has to work really hard to run.

The Indian team, who made the announcement an hour after lunch, appeared to be waiting for debutant Ishan Kishan to complete his first round, which required 20 balls.However, West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the second innings which led them to a crushing defeat. Apart from Ashwin’s 7, Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj settled for one.

The second and final test will begin on July 20 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. India, who have not lost to West Indies in a Test match since 2002, are expected to cleanly win the Test match World Cup and collect vital points.
